Best Overall Bluetooth Stereo Headset

As a truck driver, I have very demanding standards for my cel phone equipment. I work in a high noise, high vibration/impact environment, and I am on the phone up to 6-8 hours a day. I have tested a plethora of headsets over the years, and I have settled on the Voyager as personally indispensable. I own two - one as my "workhorse," and a backup.
The headset is functionally simple to use and comfortable to wear. (I stand 6'3" with big ears.) It is unobtrusive with no necklaces or big behind the head/ears components. There is only a small wire that runs behind the neck.
The in-ear design is remarkably effective, and cancels out a good 50db or so of exterior noise. That is a HUGE plus for me. That feature makes it, in practical terms, VERY LOUD. This feature is hard to find in headsets for some reason, probably because headsets are often used while driving, and manufacturers get nervous about rendering their users deaf while they are operating heavy machinery. (There is a warning in the manual about using them while driving.)
Battery life is better than advertised for me - about 10-12 hours talk/music time, although that number has come down over time with repeated use/recharging. You can use the headset while it recharges, another HUGE plus.
Noise reduction is very good, although not military grade. It is good enough to be heard clearly while driving a semi. I almost never have to extend the boom mic.
Music quality is adequate, although not as good as a wired connection. This will vary from device to device, depending on the quality of the bluetooth stack in the transmitting device. When paired with my Sprint Mogul, some over modulation is noticeable. When paired with my laptop, sound is clear and crisp. Unless you are an audiophile, I doubt you will be disappointed. remote controls include play/pause, volume up/down, and skip forward/back.
Range is excellent. I can leave my phone in the truck and roam about 20-30 ft outside before i loose the connection.
Downside - I have had to replace two units in two years because the stereo connection stopped working. If you are too rough with the ear hook, the contacts will get bent and the stereo bud will stop working. Plantronics replaced both units for free.
I have had intermittent problems with the headset spontaneously dropping its connection, sometimes in a call. This is very annoying, but it is quickly fixed (turn the headset off/on,) and doesn't happen very often considering how much I use it.
Overall, one of the best headsets out there and the best bluetooth stereo headset for my money. You won't regret buying it.
I hope this has been helpful. |
Plantronics Voyager 855 bluetooth stereo earbud headset for mobile phone

After having tried headsets of both the wired and wireless variety, from various manufacturers, I wanted to try a small/lightweight wireless STEREO headset this time.
I'd seen ads for the Voyager when it first became available - but at the time I wasn't in the market for a new headset, and it was kind of pricey.
I've been thrilled with the performance/features of this unit since I received it. The phone functions are as good or better than the other units I've tried (from Jabra and Motorola, for example) - the phone earpiece is tiny, but holds itself in my ear with the supplied gel cushions without needing the optional ear-hook (supplied in the box in a couple of sizes).
When you want to listen to music, the second earpiece is attached by a rope-like cord that plugs into the phone earpiece via the ear-hook socket (the ONLY "con"/complaint I have for this unit - you MUST use the ear-hook if you want to listen to both earpieces.) The sound quality is excellent - maybe not up to audiophile standards, but the music is crisp, the bass has power, and the isolation provided by the gel cushions makes it so you can hear the music you're trying to listen to at a reasonable volume even in somewhat noisy environment. Basic music-player controls are accessible by the small-but-usable buttons on the phone earpiece (next/last track, pause/mute, etc) - and the pause-music-when-phone-rings-then-resume-when-call-ends feature works flawlessly for me. Whether I'm listening to music on my phone (a Motorola Q9c) or on my laptop - the phone headset pairing remains locked to the phone even when I change the music source, and the pause/resume feature works transparently.
The sound quality of the phone headset is pretty good. As with any of the headsets I've tried, there are times/environments where it's going to be hard to hear the person you're talking to... I guess that's one of the hazards of being able to have a phone conversation anytime/anywhere! The transmitted audio is better than average - I frequently get surprised responses when someone finds out I'm talking to them using a Bluetooth headset.
All told, this is a great unit with all the features I needed/wanted. It doesn't have some of the frills (like displaying or reciting caller-ID info), but for me, that's just fluff anyway. Now that the price has come down, this is the headset I'll use and recommend until the next great thing comes along! |
Great Bluetooth Headset... Almost Perfect

Great Headset, even with only the main earbud in, you can still sync it with Stereo devices. Call quality is great on my end, and I have been told it's OK on the other person's.
The only things I was a little disappointed in was the battery life (which is fairly short) and the earpiece (when walking around a lot) can slowly start to slip out.
Other than that, just keep it charged when not in use, and push it back in your ear from time to time, and it's great! |

This is an absolutely incredible headset! I've tried several Bluetooth headsets for my phone and music, and found most to be quite uncomfortable.
There may be headsets on the market with better overall audio quality, but the quality for the 855 is very good, and the other benefits such as low weight, comfort, noise suppression due to earplug design, far out weigh any marginal increase in audio quality. Price is also great! I got mine here on Amazon for less than $70.
I use mine in my Jeep and on my motorcycle, and the design blocks all external noise, giving me a nice quiet ride - even without the music playing.
I believe this is the most versatile bluetooth headset on the market, and one of the best all round values.
Well done Plantronics!! |

| This is my second bluetooth headset. Much better than the previous one as the Plantronics Voyager 855 automatically connects as a stereo headset every time I turn it on. Volume is good. Sound is pretty good. Perfect for podcasts. The earpieces do tend to slip out, but when in they block out a good bit of outside noise, but not so much that I can't drive safely. I use it with a Treo 800 running Windows Mobile 6. |
